About
Currently pursuing a Master of Theology in Scripture and Theology through the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David (Lampeter) in preparation for a British PhD.
My Masters dissertation is a critical evaluation of the theology of N. T. Wright. The primary aim is to survey the scholarly context and traditions shaping his formation into a New Testament specialist and biblical exegete, and evaluate the value Wright places on the historical reconstruction of worldviews. Since a primary motivation undergirding the critical evaluation relates to his interpretive “tools for the task,” elements of his working method are evaluated. Remarking on the contribution of philosophical and theological hermeneutics on modern biblical scholarship, Anthony Thiselton lays the foundation for this critical evaluation. He portrays hermeneutics as understood in the most recent sense of the term, beginning with the recognition that “historical conditioning is two-sided: the modern interpreter, no less than the text, stands in a given historical context and tradition.” The dissertation therefore seeks to better understand the context and traditions shaping the theology and hermeneutics of N. T. Wright, in the light of modern biblical scholarship.
